The Food Assistance Program at Rivers of Hope began with a simple moment on a city sidewalk: a neighbor quietly admitting they had not eaten all day. We saw the weariness in their eyes, and we knew a sandwich alone would never be enough. So we built a ministry where every meal says, "You matter, and you are not forgotten."
We prepare and share food in a way that restores dignity, not just fills stomachs. When someone comes to us-whether they are living on the street, staying in a shelter, or simply struggling to stretch a paycheck-they are greeted by name, offered a warm meal, and invited into genuine conversation. There is no interrogation, no long forms, and no judgment about how they ended up here. Over time, these meals often become the doorway to deeper support. While plates are passed and coffee is poured, we listen to stories, pray with those who ask, and gently connect people to other Rivers of Hope programs like counseling, recovery support, and workforce resources. Many of our guests tell us this is the first place in a long time where they have felt truly seen.
Our volunteers and donors make this possible. Families serve side by side, churches assemble meal kits, and local partners help us reach encampments and hidden corners where hunger quietly lives. Every contribution-whether it is a bag of groceries, a few hours of service, or a financial gift-helps transform a simple meal into a moment of hope.
If you are hungry, you are welcome at our table. If you want to help feed your neighbors with kindness and respect, we invite you to join us. Together, we can ensure that no one has to face an empty stomach and an empty heart at the same time.
